Inspired by the moody, unpredictable, and poignant qualities that San Franciscans associate with their Ocean, this is one piece from a sequence of sixteen created from frames of a three second film shot by the artist at Ocean Beach.

In each individual piece, the artist is seen prominently displaying a new thought in the form of a large printed sign as he sprints along the sand flanking the Cliff House and Seal Rock: postcard-ready San Francisco landmarks. The sequence of ideas, universal yet non-specific, reflects on the balance between nature and city many residents and visitors find unique to San Francisco. A major urban center pervaded by the massive scale of nature at all turns–sweeping views, forested mountains, and the largest thing in the world in the Pacific Ocean—here, the pattern of human ideas can assume recalibrated proportion and meaning.
