The village of Agios Ioannis overlooks the south coast of Crete

Crete was the centre of Europe's first advanced civilization, the Minoans, from 2700 to 1420 BC. Every subsequent civilization until now has burned down and there are many active archaelogical sites. The island is defined its gorges and six groups of mountains, with some peaks exceeding 8000ft in elevation.   The climate is primarily a hot hummer Medeterranean zone. It is te most populated island in Greece, with over 600,000 residents.
