This ceramic sculpture transfers the texture and form of a redwood bark, sourced from the rural California coast. The work was created by directly imprinting clay onto living bark on location during an artist residency in Humboldt County during 2023. It is part of a series that combines ceramic casts of living redwood bark and historical lumber.    Redwood logging in California has a complex history rooted in the 19th century, marked by extensive harvesting and its subsequent impact on the region’s ecology.
