T Today I tested my ability to pyhsically copy a playable LP record. It worked!

Below are pictures and videos of a homemade record that I molded out of polyurethane resin. The original casting (copy) was made of out silicone, directly from Billy Ocean’s 1985 offering “The Jewel of the Nile.”

The two videos demonstrate the record being played by (1) a turntable stylus and (2) a sewing needle. In the latter, the vibrations of the needle are audible as speakerless sound via a piece of Styrofoam. The Styrofoam is the speaker. I learned this at the Exploratorium and it is always an amazing trick.
